When will the dream be fulfilled: The last village in UP has not yet been electrified, the pillars were installed in 2013
The government may claim to provide electricity from village to village, but the ground reality is something else. Chaura, a most backward village in UP bordering Bihar, is the example of it. The power supply has not been restored so far.
In this election season, there are claims of development everywhere. All those in power are counting their achievements, but every claim is hollow in front of the people of the last village of UP. This is the village where the brightness of electricity has not reached till date.
In Chaura village of Sadar assembly constituency of Sonbhadra district, after a lot of struggle, the pillars were installed in the year 2013, but due to the absence of wires, the villagers' ability to see electricity remained incomplete. Just a few metres away, when people see the light in the villages of Bihar, the mind is left in a state of shock. After the closure of the distribution of kerosene, their misery has increased further.
The village is surrounded by mountains.
Chaura is the revenue village of Madpa gram panchayat of naxal affected Nagwan block. This village is surrounded by mountains and borders Bihar. Promises were made to deliver all the development schemes to the villages, but even before reaching this end, all the schemes have been dying.
The ray of development could not reach the village.
Whether it was the BSP government in the state or the SP and the BJP, no government could the ray of development reach this village. Ramjatan Kharwar, Satyanarayan Singh and Sudama and other villagers of the village say that many a times the regional public representatives and the officials of the electricity department were apprised about the power problem in the village but there was no hearing.
About 45 kilometres away from the block office, this village does not have any immediate movement of officials. Because of this, they are not able to communicate their problems to the authorities. According to the villagers, in the year 2013, there were electric poles in the village but the wire was not pulled. This could not make the dream of burning the bulbs in the village come true.
The problem has further aggravated since kerosene distribution was stopped. S K Singh, XEN of Robertsganj block, said that a survey has been conducted for electrification in Chaura village. The work could not start due to the code of conduct. Electrification will be done in the village after the elections.
There are solar lights installed at one or two places.
Some people of Chaura village have installed solar lights in their houses. Mobiles charge through solar lights. There is a problem of light in the event of a change in the sky and the battery is not charging. The villagers have demanded electrification from the electricity department officials.
